FAB Series - CT system for production

CT suited to production environments

FAB Series is an industrial CT solution designed for the shopfloor: robust hardware, end-to-end automation and software built for operators, connected to the factory via OPC UA.

Industrial CT was long reserved for laboratories and R&D, used by experts in controlled environments. Yet X-rays and, more broadly, non-destructive testing technology are among the best solutions for inspecting complex parts and guaranteeing quality throughout the production cycle.

On the shopfloor, the reality is different: dust, vibration, sustained production rates, non-specialist operators and very high availability requirements, where every stoppage has a direct impact on production and costs.

FAB Series answers this reality. Robust hardware, automated flows, full traceability and native communication with MES (manufacturing execution systems), robots and supervision systems: CT becomes reliable and usable day to day, to reduce scrap, speed up decisions and optimise return on investment. See also our approach to inspection on the production shopfloor.

FAB Series: which industrial uses?

FAB Series is aimed at industries where production quality, traceability and availability are critical and where the parts to be inspected are often complex or high-value: critical parts, turbines and composites, engines, batteries and injection-moulded parts, implants, devices and prostheses, and components from many other industries, inspected non-destructively, as close as possible to production.

By bringing CT onto the shopfloor, FAB Series helps manufacturers secure their in-house inspections, stabilise quality and document every inspection, at the pace of production.

FAB Series a CT system designed for the production shopfloor

Designed for demanding environments, FAB Series turns industrial CT into a genuine production tool. Its robust CT systems keep working despite dust, oil, vibration and multi-shift production rates. Workflows can be fully automated, from acquisition to the OK/NOK decision, with a simplified operator interface accessible to non-specialists.

It is built on SoftProd, a bespoke production software interface, on automatic analysis by VisionAI and on native integration with the factory via OPC UA: more availability, more throughput, more stable quality and full traceability of inspections. Production-orientated services (application start-up, advanced monitoring, Heavy Duty maintenance contracts secure commissioning and system availability.

Uptime & stability

In production, every stoppage means lost throughput and risks to quality. FAB Series is designed to deliver high availability and stable performance over time, in the heart of a workshop.

  • Sealed tubes: designed for production, the sealed tubes (150 and 225 kV) reduce interventions and deliver more stable performance over time. They limit maintenance and secure day-to-day availability.

  • Advanced monitoring: tracks the condition of critical components, detects drift and the age of sensitive parts, and makes it possible to anticipate maintenance and plan stoppages.

  • IP54 protection and reinforcements: key components are protected to IP54, to withstand dust, splashes and workshop conditions.

  • Beam shutter: avoids ON/OFF cycles at every loading. The X-rays remain stable between two scans, which reduces cycle times, stabilises the beam and extends the life of the X-ray generator.

  • LiDAR protection: actively prevents collisions inside the CT system. It protects the tube, the detector and the inspected parts, without complex setup.

Throughput & automation

Industrialising CT inspection means increasing the number of parts inspected while reducing manual handling. FAB Series automates the flow from end to end and runs 24/7.

  • End-to-end automated workflow: from acquisition to reconstruction, from analysis to the report. Parameters are loaded automatically, actions are run in parallel and the equipment can operate autonomously, even without an operator.

  • Automated internal loading: runs several parts in sequence without human intervention and handles different formats and sample-specific parameters, while remaining ergonomic and safe for operators. The CT system can run at night and at weekends.

  • Robotised auto-loading module: automates loading and unloading. It stores and feeds up to 300 parts, handles different sizes and weights (up to 80 kg, 150 kg as an option) and serves one or two CT systems from the same module. Automatic part identification tracks inspections and eases integration with the MES or quality systems.

Simplified operator interface

FAB Series is designed for day-to-day use by production operators, not only CT specialists: simple, safe, repeatable inspection, with less training and less dependence on a few experts.

  • Clear human–machine interface (HMI) and user roles: the HMI is uncluttered and suited to the shopfloor. Operators access only the functions they need; sensitive actions are reserved for “expert” or “maintenance” profiles through access rights. An integrated barcode reader limits input errors and automatically selects the right inspection parameters.

  • One-click preconfigured workflows: acquisition, reconstruction, analysis and, if needed, report generation. Recipes are standardised for each part reference, for repeatable execution from one workstation and one team to the next.

  • VisionAI: objective OK/NOK decisions: CT image analysis is automated and OK/NOK decisions become fast, objective and consistent. AI reduces bias due to fatigue or interpretation, improves the detection of subtle defects and maintains the same level of judgement whatever the workload or team.

Industry 4.0 connectivity

FAB Series fits into the factory’s digital ecosystem. Production and quality data are collected, structured and shared automatically for full traceability. The variables exchanged can be aligned with the customer’s workflow, to evolve at the pace of new references or new analysis modules.

  • OPC UA: connection to MES, supervision, IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) platforms and robotised loading and unloading cells.

  • Automatic production logs: production events and operator actions are recorded (scans, machine status, cycle times, errors), for full traceability and simplified audits.

  • Standardised data formats: compatible with reporting tools and industrial information systems.

FAQ: FAB Series

What is FAB Series (production CT)?
FAB Series is a complete industrial CT solution for the shopfloor: hardware, automation, software and services. Ideal for non-destructive testing in production.
Are FAB Series CT systems “in-line”?
No, not today. FAB Series is a modular at-line/shopfloor solution, but its key building blocks (robotisation, real-time data feedback, typical cycles of around 1 minute including loading) lay the groundwork for in-line projects.
What are the benefits of using X-rays in production (quality, ROI)?
CT enables earlier detection of defects, stable quality, faster decisions, less scrap and 24/7 availability thanks to robust, automated CT workflows.
CT automation: what does FAB Series offer?
An end-to-end workflow (acquisition → reconstruction → analysis → report), internal loading and a robotised auto-loading module (up to 300 parts, 80 kg – 150 kg as an option), with night and weekend operation.
Maintenance and services around FAB Series?
Heavy Duty maintenance contract: SLA ≤ 2 h, dedicated spare-parts stock, corrective visits, annual preventive maintenance and data analyses to anticipate stoppages and maximise uptime.
Traceability & Industry 4.0 connectivity?
OPC UA connection to MES, supervision, IIoT and robotised cells, with automatic logging of production logs and events (scans, machine status, cycle times, errors) for end-to-end traceability and simplified audits.
Can an operator use the CT system?
Yes. Thanks to an uncluttered HMI with user roles, one-click workflows, a barcode reader and VisionAI for fast, objective and consistent OK/NOK decisions, the CT system is easily usable by a non-expert.
Which platforms are compatible with FAB Series and what part sizes?
Four platforms of the Explorer line: EasyTom S (150 kV, samples up to Ø300 × 410 mm and 5 kg), EasyTom L (225 kV, Ø685 × 1,080 mm and 80 kg), EasyTom XL (225 kV, Ø1,100 × 1,000 mm and 80 kg) and EasyTom B (225 kV, Ø1,100 × 2,000 mm and 100 kg).
What is the difference between FAB Series and Metrology Series?
FAB Series adapts a CT system to production inspection: automation, operator interface, factory connection. The Metrology Series adds dimensional measurement, with performance verified to VDI/VDE 2630. On the EasyTom S and L, both series are available.
