HORUS Horus: the advanced reconstruction module that reduces CT artefacts

Horus is an advanced reconstruction module built into X-Act, the acquisition and reconstruction software for RX Solutions CT systems. It reduces artefacts and beam hardening, enhances contrast and, depending on the use case, cuts scan time. You can activate it on any CT system in the RX Solutions range, with no hardware changes.

Metal parts, multi-material assemblies, highly attenuating components: Horus reconstructs scans that were previously difficult, or even impossible, to use.

Horus in 5 key points

  • A software module for advanced reconstruction, integrated into X-Act.
  • Corrects: artefacts, beam hardening, low contrast.
  • Speeds up: up to 4× fewer projections at equivalent quality, depending on the use case.
  • Compatibility: the entire RX Solutions CT system range, with no hardware upgrade.
  • Availability: immediate, as a software option, with a trial activation possible on your parts.

Which difficult parts can Horus reconstruct?

Horus tackles the cases that defeat conventional reconstruction: high-density components, complex multi-material assemblies and constrained acquisition set-ups. Where standard methods produced images that were hard to interpret, the module delivers homogeneous volumes that are ready to use.

Laboratories and industrial users can therefore analyse a wider range of parts and materials in detail, without investing in a new generator.

Can Horus replace a hardware upgrade?

Partly. By extending an existing CT system’s ability to handle dense materials or complex configurations, Horus delivers some of the gains of a hardware upgrade through a simple software activation. Two direct consequences:
  • A better return on investment from equipment already in place.
  • Lower investment costs to approach the performance of far more expensive high-energy configurations.

How does Horus reduce scan time?

Horus maintains, or even improves, reconstruction quality with far fewer projections, depending on the use case, down to around 25% of the original dataset. In practice:
  • Scan times up to 4× shorter, so up to 4× more scans at equivalent quality.
  • Reduced radiation dose for sensitive samples.
  • Fewer re-scans and faster decisions.
  • Less data to process and store.

Sharper images, more reliable measurements

By reducing artefacts and making reconstructed volumes more homogeneous, Horus stabilises segmentation and makes inspection routines more reliable. Surface determination becomes more robust, which improves the accuracy of metrology analyses, limits manual corrections and speeds up analysis workflows.

How does Horus integrate with X-Act?

Horus is built directly into X-Act: simply select Horus mode at the reconstruction stage. The interface and workflow stay the same, so you can start using it immediately. Technical support and training are provided by the RX Solutions team in France.

"With Horus, we enable our customers to reconstruct scans that were previously unusable. Users get more homogeneous, less noisy volumes and can considerably speed up their scan series, without changing their equipment. It is an immediate gain in productivity and in confidence in the analysis"

Which applications is Horus suited to?

Horus delivers results on a wide range of parts and in all industrial sectors:

  • Metal and multi-material parts
  • Highly attenuating components (high density/thickness)
  • Limited angles, partial trajectories, laminography
  • Sensitive samples where dose and/or scan time must be reduced
  • Power electronics, batteries, electromechanical assemblies
  • Metal additive manufacturing
  • Complex aerospace and automotive parts

Availability and trial on your parts

Horus is available as a software option for the entire RX Solutions CT system range. We can offer a trial activation via an X-Act update, so you can evaluate the module on your own parts.
