CT scanning works with the environment

by Marion on 08 Jan 2024 at 09h05

In a world where environmental responsibility has become crucial, many companies are looking for innovative ways to reduce their carbon footprint. RX Solutions, the French leader in industrial tomography, sets itself apart by adopting sustainable practices. A concrete example of its commitment to the environment lies in the innovative use of recycled lead for X-ray shielding.

The environment challenge

CT scanning involves the use of X-rays to create three-dimensional images of objects in order to inspect their structural integrity or detect defects. It is used in a variety of sectors, including the automotive, art, medical, research and battery industries (discover different sectors). The rays used by machines can be ionizing. Because of its high density, lead is able to absorb ionizing radiation efficiently, making it an ideal material for shielding industrial tomography machines. Shielding aims to protect operators, engineers or anyone in the immediate vicinity of the machine, by minimizing their exposure to the harmful radiation emitted during the tomography process. However, the production of new lead has a significant environmental impact, from air and water pollution to the depletion of natural resources.

An ecological solution: recycled lead

Aware of these issues, RX Solutions has chosen to rethink its practices by adopting an environmentally-friendly approach. Instead of using new lead, the company has integrated recycled lead into its manufacturing processes. This strategic decision stems from the company's commitment to sustainable development, and is part of a wider approach aimed at minimizing its impact on the planet. RX Solutions decided to join forces with Le Plomb Français, a part of ECOBAT  the world's leading producer of lead. By choosing laminated lead, we're contributing to useful energy savings. Not only does it outlast all its competitors by more than 100 years, but it's also one of the few products that can be 100% recycled forever. The ecological benefits of recycled lead:

Reduced C02 emissions: The production of recycled lead requires considerably less energy than the manufacture of new lead, which translates into lower carbon dioxide emissions.
Conservation of natural resources : By using recycled lead, we contribute to the conservation of natural resources by avoiding the extraction of additional lead from the earth.
Waste reduction: The incorporation of recycled materials into our production process contributes to the overall reduction of waste, supporting a circular economy.

Commitment to safety and environment

"Our choice to use recycled lead in no way compromises the safety of our equipment. On the opposite, it testifies to our ability to innovate with respect for the environment without sacrificing quality and reliability. We maintain the highest standards of X-ray protection while acting as responsible custodians of the planet we share. By integrating recycled lead into our practices, our industrial tomography company is positioning itself as a visionary leader in the industry. Our commitment to the environment is not limited to the quality of our products, but is also reflected in our choice of materials. We firmly believe that innovation and sustainability can coexist harmoniously, paving the way for a future where technology and environmental responsibility converge for the good of all."
